In preparation for the World Premieres Film Festival (WPFF), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has enlisted distinguished Filipino sculptor Impy Pilapil. Pilapil received her education from the University of the Philippines , Accademia Italiana in Rome, Italy, and Pratt Graphics Center in New York. Describing her process in creating the trophy, Pilapil says, “In conceptualizing this award, the first idea that came to mind was a film reel. Because of its planar quality, the film strip follows the cylindrical shape of its container. Hence, when unraveled, it has a distinct undulating shape much like a wave that is an ongoing theme of my work. A film also has to unravel in order for a story to be told and as each story has a beginning, climax, and conclusion, my wave has three distinct peaks to represent them.” The specially-designed sculptural trophy is a fitting prize for winning filmmakers from the competition sections of the WPFF.
